Ukrainian football will be followed even more this year and the reason for this is Oleksandr Usyk's unexpected decision. The World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, who holds the WBA, IBF and WBO belts, has signed up with one of the Ukrainian Premier League teams.
He was training with the Polisja club in Zhiromir to be in shape and what he showed on the field surprised the leaders, who offered him a contract. Usyk has accepted and is already registered in the championship where the attacker of the Albanian national team, Taulant Seferi, is also active.
The president of the club, Genadli Butkevich, showed that everything for them had been a real surprise, after they had seen the skills of the boxer-footballer, who has signed for a year and will wear the number 17 jersey.
" We were very impressed during this period that he trained with us and his dedication was a great example for all our footballers. That's why we proposed him to stay and his love for football made this cooperation possible. His dream of becoming a professional footballer is coming true ," the club president said about the 36-year-old.
Usyk had played in friendly matches with this club last year, but now he will have the opportunity to play in the Ukrainian championship.
