For the first time in its history, Canada will play a World Cup match on home soil, as it faces Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto tonight, in a match that starts at 9:00 PM.
The opening ceremony will be held before the match as one of the tournament's host countries, while the home team is considered the favorite on the field. Canada is ranked 30th in the FIFA rankings, while Bosnia and Herzegovina is ranked 64th.
This will be the first match of Group B. Coach Jesse Marsch has some of the most recognizable names in Canadian soccer at his disposal, such as Juventus' Jonathan David, Southampton's Cyle Larin, Sassuolo's Kone and Villarreal's Buchanan.
On the other hand, Bosnia and Herzegovina will rely on the experience of captain Edin Dzeko, who at the age of 40 continues to be the point of reference for the team. The composition is also not lacking in young talents such as Sassuolo defender Muharremovic, wanted by Inter, and Salzburg striker Kerim Alajbegovic.
However, the Canadians are aware that they are facing an opponent who secured qualification for the World Cup after eliminating Italy in the play-off stage.
Meanwhile, at 03:00 in the morning Albanian time, the next Group B match will be played between the USA and Paraguay. In this case, too, an opening ceremony will be held, with the USA being one of the tournament's organizing countries.
The Americans are easily considered favorites on paper and will be led by coach Maurizio Pochettino, who has players like Milan's Christian Pulisic, Juventus' Weston McKennie, Bayer Leverkusen's Tillman and Monaco's forward Folarin Balogun at his disposal.
Paraguay returns to the World Cup after a 16-year absence, with the last participation dating back to South Africa 2010. The two national teams last faced each other in a friendly match held in November, where the USA triumphed with a score of 2-1.
