Szimon Marshiniak has been in the spotlight following the Blaugrana's 4-3 defeat to the Italian giants at the San Siro, with some of his decisions creating a debate and sparking criticism from the Barça camp.
On Thursday, various reports circulated quotes allegedly made by Marsiniak after the match, in which he allegedly criticized Barcelona players for their reaction to his refereeing. These quotes were attributed to Egyptian media outlet Al-Qahera.
In those quotes, Marshiniak allegedly labelled comments made by Barcelona players and staff as "ridiculous" and "stupid", while justifying his decision to allow Inter's third goal to stand.
However, in a private conversation with Polish sports daily and news portal “Przeglad Sportowy Onet”, Marshiniak categorically denied having spoken to the press after the match:
" The statements published by the Egyptian and Spanish media, which were widely circulated on social media, turned out to be a complete fabrication. A referee is not allowed to comment after a match on the decisions made ," Marshiniak is said to have said. Barcelona, for its part, insists that the referees' decisions cost them their place in the Champions League final.
