2026 World Cup, Trump announces new visa rules for fans

Travelers traveling to the United States for the 2026 World Cup will be able to go through the visa interview process more quickly, President Donald Trump announced.

The US President unveiled the new "FIFA Priority Appointments System," or FIFA PASS, at a press conference held in the Oval Office.

"I have instructed my administration to do everything possible to make the 2026 World Cup an unprecedented success," Trump stressed.

FIFA PASS allows those who have purchased tickets through FIFA to receive priority service at visa interviews.

Speaking with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Trump urged travelers planning to visit the United States for the World Cup to apply for visas "immediately."

Visa appointment within 60 days

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the US government has added 400 new consular officers worldwide to meet the growing demand. According to him, 80% of potential travelers to the US can now secure visa appointments within 60 days.

Under the new system, those who purchased tickets through FIFA will be able to go through a special “FIFA portal” to get priority in the application and interview at the State Department. “The review will be the same as in any other case,” Rubio stressed.

"The only difference is that we are pushing them forward in line," he added.

For his part, Infantino said: "America welcomes the world. We have always said that this will be the biggest and most inclusive World Cup in FIFA's history - and FIFA PASS is a prime example of that philosophy."

He added that "the United States is ready to welcome fans from around the world on an unprecedented scale," noting that "soccer will unite the planet when the tournament begins in June in North America."

More than six million tickets will be available for the 104 matches of the tournament, which will take place in 16 cities in the US, Canada and Mexico.

In previous World Cups, the process was easier for fans. In 2018, Russia replaced the visa with a “fan ID card,” which was issued simply by presenting personal information and proof of ticket purchase. In 2022, in Qatar, only a so-called Hayya card was required, through which spectators could enter the country.
