" The penalty awarded to Napoli was decisive in breaking the balance of the match, even though Napoli later deserved the victory ," these were the words of Inter president Beppe Marota, after the defeat at "Maradona" against former coach Antonio Conte's team.
Marota explained that the referee had initially not awarded a penalty, but the decision came after the linesman's intervention:
" The referee had not blown the whistle, but the penalty was awarded by the winger's signal. Such a situation would have deserved the intervention of the VAR. Then he blew the whistle because the assistant decides. Enough with the 'penalty', the referee cannot be influenced by an assistant who is 30 meters away ."
Inter's number one also admitted that the episode affected the emotional state of the team:
" The players were tense, that penalty created nervousness. The impact was there. However, Napoli could have won the match even without that episode ," Marota concluded.
