Barcelona legend Kristo Stoickov reveals Lionel Messi turned down a move to Saudi Arabia because he loves football and not money.
"Flea" decided not to make a big move in Saudi Arabia, to Al-Hilal, where it is said that he would have earned a full 400 million euros per year, but chose to sign for Inter Miami in the MLS.
Stoickov has revealed that the Barca legend chose against chasing money in the Middle East and he believes the reasoning behind this is Messi's love for the game of football.
" We didn't play for money, we played for love ," Stoichkov initially told Stats Perform.
" This shows greatness. For me it was not important to know the salary or bonuses, for me it was more important to play and for people to appreciate me.
Agents take care of other things. "Mesi comes to compete and play, and he doesn't care about money because he loves football," concluded the football legend .
Mesi has not yet made his debut for Inter Miami; he was scheduled to play against Cruz Azul, but club owner David Beckham has claimed the debut could be postponed as coach Tata Martino assesses the Argentine's fitness.
