Milan secured an important 1-0 victory over Lecce at the San Siro tonight, once again remaining just three points behind Serie A leaders Inter.
After Inter's victory over Udinese, Milan was forced to win to stay in the competition and dominated most of the match, especially in the first half.
However, Lecce's organized defense and frequent offside traps made it difficult for the home team to finish off the chances.
There were plenty of chances, with Saelemaekers, Gabbia and Leão all coming close to goal, while goalkeeper Falcone made some crucial saves, particularly from Pulisic and Ricci. After the break, Milan increased the pressure and continued to press hard for the lead.
The solution came in the 76th minute, when substitute Niklas Füllkrug headed home from close range after a perfect cross from Alexis Saelemaekers, giving Milan a vital three points.
Unable to react, Lecce failed to take any serious risks and Milan calmly managed the advantage until the end.
The Rossoneri remain unbeaten in their last 10 games at San Siro and continue to keep their hopes of a fourth Scudetto alive this century. On the other hand, Lecce remain in the relegation zone.
