Denni Xhepa has closed the competition in the giant slalom discipline in Alpine Skiing at the "Milano Cortina" Winter Olympic Games, ranking 34th among 81 participating skiers.
The 22-year-old Albanian skier, who is participating in the Winter Olympics for the second time, recorded a total time of 2 minutes, 35 seconds and 91 hundredths.
Two descents at different speeds
On the first descent, Xhepa stopped the clock at 1 minute, 20 seconds and 57 hundredths, a time that placed him 36th. According to official data, he encountered difficulties on several parts of the track, which affected his initial performance.
In the second descent, the 22-year-old significantly improved his time, recording 1 minute, 15 seconds and 34 hundredths. This result allowed him to move up two positions in the final standings, closing the race with a total time of 2:35.91.
The surprise of the race and the podium
As for the podium, Brazilian Lukas Pinheiro Braten surprised by winning the gold medal with a time of 2 minutes and 25 seconds, giving Brazil its first Olympic gold medal in this discipline.
The main favorite, Marko Odermat, came in second, 58 hundredths behind the winner, while Loïk Meilard secured the bronze medal.
Waiting for the next races
Denni Xhepa will return to the track on February 16, where he will compete in the slalom discipline.
Meanwhile, Sunday will be dedicated to the girls' giant slalom competition. The main attention is expected to be on Lara Kolturi, who is in the top ten in the world according to the overall ranking.
