Passion for the World Cup cost a suspected drug trafficker in Peru dearly. Peruvian authorities arrested a 48-year-old man in the Las Flores neighborhood of Lima, thanks to a special police operation that combined the element of surprise with a well-thought-out strategy.

According to police, two agents disguised themselves as Clutch and Maple, the official mascots of the World Cup, to approach the target without arousing suspicion. The operation took place while the suspect was watching the opening ceremony of the championship at his apartment.

The arrested man has been identified as Carlos Cabrera, 48, known in the area by the nickname "Pichichi." He is being investigated for drug trafficking in the form of microtrafficking.

During the search, police seized 2,524 doses of crack cocaine, 210 grams of cocaine, 209 grams of marijuana, as well as a firearm with related ammunition.

Authorities say Cabrera has a criminal record for the same offense. He has previously served two sentences in prisons in the Peruvian capital, where he spent a total of about nine years.

Investigations into the case continue, while police are verifying the arrestee's possible connections to other drug distribution networks.
