Passed away at the age of 76, Miguel Angel Gonzalez Suarez, better known as Miguel Angel, the legendary goalkeeper of Real Madrid between the 70s and 80s.

"El Gato" (his nickname) suffered from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a disease that he had revealed to the public since December 17, 2022.

Miguel Angel played for the "Merenges" team for 18 seasons, playing a total of 346 matches. He joined Los Blancos in 1967 from the Couto Sports Group.

Fierce competition with Betankurt and Garcia Remon led to a loan move to Castejo in his first season. He then returned, but finally took over the title role in 1974.

From then on, he did not relinquish the number 1 jersey until a decade later. With Real Madrid, Miguel Angel won 6 La Liga titles (1971–1972, 1974–1975, 1975–1976, 1977–1978, 1978–1979, 1979–1980), 5 times the Copa del Rey in 1969–1970, 1973–1974, 1974–1975, 1979–1980, 1981–1982 and the UEFA Cup in 1985.

Miguel Angel also played 18 times for Spain, becoming the team's starting goalkeeper at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. He was also part of the squad that participated in the 1982 World Cup in Spain.
