Rolando Maran's adventure on the red and black bench started in the worst way. The Albanian national team was defeated by the minimum score 0-1 by Israel in a friendly match held at the "Air Albania" stadium.
The moment that decided the fate of this match came in the 73rd minute. After a quick counterattack by the hosts, Gloukh took advantage of the spaces in the Albanian defense and beat Sherri with a diagonal shot.
Oskar Glouk decided to provoke the Albanian fans during the celebration. It was Elseid Hysaj who immediately called the Israeli footballer to account. Both protagonists of the episode in question were punished with yellow cards.
In the 82nd minute, Israel came close to scoring a second goal, but Alen Sherri made another life-saving save. The score remained the same until the end. The match ended 0-1, in favor of Israel.
The first half ended in a goalless draw, although Albania had good opportunities to take the lead. The clearest chance came in the 10th minute, when Elseid Hysaj crossed accurately from the right wing to Ernest Muçin Mehmeti, who, alone in front of goal, failed to coordinate himself and sent the ball over the crossbar.
Israel responded in the 15th minute with Gloukh, but his attempt ended outside the box. Kristjan Asllani tried twice from distance in the 18th and 22nd minutes, without finding the opposing goal. Mehmeti was close to scoring again in the 29th minute with an arched shot that went wide of the post, while Hoxha tried in the 34th minute, but without success.
At the end of the first half, Armando Broja missed a good opportunity inside the area, failing to finish properly in the 43rd minute.
The second half also started at a fast pace. Ramadani tried from distance in the 54th minute, while Israel became more persistent in attack. In the 59th minute, goalkeeper Alen Sherri saved the Rossoneri with a decisive save on Solomon, who was alone in front of the goal.
Albania reacted with a dangerous move by Hoxha in the 67th minute, when a deflection by the Israeli defense almost resulted in an own goal.
Just a minute later, there was tension on the field, as the goal scorer gestured towards the fans in the stands, leading to Elseid Hysaj's reaction and a clash between the players.
Despite their efforts in the remaining minutes, Albania failed to get back into the game and were forced to accept defeat in the first test under Rolando Maran. An unwelcome debut for the Italian coach, while the Rossoneri will look for a response in the upcoming matches.
