Sevilla defender Kike Salas has been arrested by police in Spain on suspicion of match-fixing in favour of illegal sports betting.
A judge in Moron de la Frontera, the province where Salas was born, has asked him to testify following an investigation into matches last season. According to investigators, the Sevilla player received repeated yellow cards to favor sports bets of his friends or relatives, for illegal financial gain.
He is accused of fraud, in a case where La Liga will also be involved as an injured party. After his testimony regarding the charges was taken today, he was released under investigation.
The investigation is focused on the last few games of last season, in which Sevilla were not in the competition for anything, the reason why he is thought to have agreed with his teammates to receive yellow cards in order to win tickets. Kike Salas was punished with 10 yellow cards during last season, but he received 7 in the last 9 weeks of the championship.
