In Fylëpszallas, Hungary, the “Skënderbeg Cup”, a prestigious arm wrestling tournament, gathered competitors from all over the world. This competition, named after our national hero, Gjergj Kastriot – Skënderbeg, was organized by world champion Laszlo Klemen, with the support of the Honorary Consul, Avni Hafuzi.
Albania was represented by athlete Shkelqim Koçi, accompanied by his coach Ivo Doshi, who is also the vice president of the Albanian Arm Wrestling Federation. Koçi excelled in this tournament, being declared champion twice in two disciplines:
In left-handed wrestling, he defeated a Serbian opponent in the final. In right-handed wrestling, he triumphed over the Hungarian champion.
This success comes after another important achievement for Koç, who last year won the bronze medal at the World Championships held in Switzerland.
Arm wrestling is said to have originated in the time of Skanderbeg, who used it as a method to select the strongest warriors.
