The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Gianluca Rocchi, who is suspected of sports fraud in connection with the appointment of referees in important Italian football matches. According to documents reviewed by the "Agi" agency, he faces three main charges.
First charge: Appointment of favored arbitrators
According to investigators, Roki, in his capacity as the person responsible for selecting AIA referees, is suspected of having influenced the appointment of Andrea Colombo as referee for the Bologna-Inter match, held on April 20, 2025.
The prosecution claims that this appointment was made deliberately to favor Inter, which at that time was in the running for the championship title.
Second charge: Coppa Italia manipulation
The investigation also extends to the Italian Cup matches. According to the prosecution, Roki is suspected of having "hidden" or manipulated the appointment of referee Daniele Doveri during a match held on April 2, 2025.
The aim, according to the accusation, was to make Dover unavailable for other more important matches for Inter, including the potential Cup final and crucial Serie A challenges.
Third charge: Influence on the VAR system
The third case is related to the Udinese-Parma match, played on March 1, 2025.
The prosecution alleges that Roki, in his role as VAR supervisor, influenced VAR referee Daniele Paterna to request an on-field review. This intervention, according to investigators, was intended to award a penalty to Udinese, despite Paterna's initial assessment being otherwise.
