Two Premier League footballers have been arrested as they are accused of sexual violence. The identity of the footballers and the name of the club where they play has not yet been revealed.
English police announced that they descended on the English club's stadium last weekend and initially interviewed a 19-year-old player, who is suspected of sexual assault, aiding and abetting an assault and instigating a rape.
Sources told The Sun he was allowed to leave the stadium after a brief interview before being formally arrested afterwards.
The player spent the night in a cell and was later questioned by detectives. His teammate, also 19, was arrested the next day and questioned on suspicion of rape.
Police confirmed that the players have been released on bail pending further enquiries. The suspected case of rape is said to have happened on Friday evening.
A police spokesman told British media: “Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault, aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both have been released on bail by the police."
It is not yet known whether the accused footballers have been suspended by their club, or whether the club is still awaiting further investigations.
