Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about the rumours linking him to the sacking of Xabi Alonso by Real Madrid following the latter's departure. The German, currently Red Bull's global director of football, reiterated that the situation does not concern him at all.
" This has nothing to do with me and it doesn't affect me at all ," the former Liverpool manager told Austrian television network Servus TV, downplaying the long-running speculation linking him to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.
The former manager insisted he is completely content with his current role, away from the daily pressure. " Coaching positions are always changing and it's good to watch from the bench without worrying about what it might mean for you personally, because where I am now is the right place for me ," Klopp added, closing the door on any possibility of returning to the bench in the near future.
Beyond his own personal situation, Klopp showed empathy for Xabi Alonso, who was sacked just six months after arriving at Real Madrid following his successful spell at Bayer Leverkusen.
" It's a sign that not everything is 100% right if Xabi Alonso, who demonstrated for more than two years at Leverkusen what an extraordinary talent he has as a coach, has to leave Real Madrid just six months later," he stressed. The German added: "If you take over from a legendary coach like Carlo Ancelotti, who had a very clear way of managing his team, it's very difficult to come in and change things. That's what made the situation very complicated for Xabi Alonso. I really feel sorry for him, because I think he's a great coach ," he concluded.
