Barcelona talent Lamine Yamal has expressed his desire for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez to join the Catalan club next season. His statement comes at a time when speculation about the Argentine's future has increased.
According to reports, Atlético Madrid executives have not welcomed Barcelona's interest in Álvarez, and have even accused the Catalan club of a lack of respect in the way it is handling the matter.
On the other hand, Álvarez has hinted that he could leave Atlético, with Barcelona mentioned as one of his preferred destinations, along with Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Real Madrid.
In an interview with Cadena SER, Yamal said he would be happy to welcome the Argentine striker to Camp Nou.
"I'm not thinking about it too much, but I would like it, because he is a great player. If he comes, we will welcome him with open arms... If I were him, I would come. We will wait for him if he wants to come," Yamal said.
The 18-year-old is currently with the Spanish national team at the 2026 World Cup, the first major tournament of his career. He said he is gradually adapting to the pace and demands of international football.
"I'm learning. International football is different from club football. I'm gaining experience and understanding the return from injury... Now I feel very good and I can't wait for the next match," he said.
Spain finished the group stage in first place, while Yamal assessed that the team still has the potential to give more in the remainder of the tournament.
"We haven't had a really big game yet. When we find our rhythm, we'll be almost unstoppable," he added.
At the end of the interview, Yamal also mentioned the names that have impressed him the most in this World Cup, highlighting Lionel Messi, Vinícius Júnior, as well as the performances of the national teams of Morocco, Argentina, and Japan.
