"My heart beats for Albania", Rudi Vata: They call me a traitor, but

Rudi Vata has spoken about the future of his son Roko, whether he will choose Albania or Ireland. In an interview given to the British media, the former captain of the Albanian national team emphasized that he will not influence the choice of his son and that he is also called a traitor, but Rudi Vata emphasizes that his heart beats only for Albania.

" The Albanian media always call me, they call me a traitor: 'You stop your son from playing with Albania, how can you do that?' They make up stories that never happened. Never in my life have I told Roko which national team he should choose.

I know Ireland knocked on our door, he was a young lad and I said it was a good opportunity. Of course I have fond memories of Ireland and of course his grandmother is Irish, his whole family on his mother's side is Irish.

I am Albanian and my heart beats for my country. My heart beats for my country and I am very proud to have represented my country. But this is Roko's life, not mine, and it's not my future, but Roko's.

I think that Roko has chosen Ireland and has grown there in the U-15, U-17, U-19 and soon he will have the experience with the U-21. Now is the most difficult part of the football adventure.

Will it be good enough? I do not know. The future will tell. The question is: Who will offer him the best project and who will convince him.

It is Roko who will make the choice. My influence is zero. My influence is only to tell him to learn what is best for him and make his own choice, for I cannot decide it. I come from a dictatorial country, but I don't like to dictate. Because I said that freedom for me is everything and Roko was born in freedom.

He was born in Scotland, he has been in this club (Sëltik) since he was 7 years old. His feelings are different, while mine at that age were different.

I did not have the freedom in the country to think: 'One day I will be a player of Sëltik', at Roko's age, this was impossible. It was illegal for you to think that. The maximum you could think about was playing with the national team. She was my dream. Roko can dream of playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid, no one is stopping him ", said Vata in the interview for "Off The Ball".
