The President of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has officially resigned from his position, in accordance with article 42.f of the club's Statute, to qualify as a candidate in the elections for the Board of Directors, which will take place on March 15.
Laporta's resignation was formalized during the regular meeting of the Board of Directors held this Monday, where the official call for elections was also published. According to the club's statutory rules, the president and board members who intend to run in the electoral process must first step down from their positions.
Along with Laporta, several other members of the current board who will participate in the elections have also submitted their resignations. Specifically, the vice president for Institutional Affairs, Elena Fort; the vice president for Social Affairs, Rafael Escudero; and board members Ferran Oliver, Josep Maria Albert, Xavier Barbany, Miquel Camps, Aureli Mas, Xavier Puig and Joan Soler i Ferré have left their positions.
Following the formalisation of these resignations, the FC Barcelona Board of Directors will continue to exercise its functions until the end of the current term, scheduled for 30 June, but now with a new composition. During this transitional period, the club's highest governing body will be led by Rafael Yuste in the role of president, while Josep Cubells will hold the position of vice-president and secretary. Alfons Castro will continue as treasurer, while the board members will be Josep Ignasi Macià, Àngel Riudalbas, Joan Solé i Sust and Sisco Pujol.
The March 15 election process is expected to determine the future direction of the Catalan club, at an important moment for Barcelona's institutional and sporting stability.
