AC Milan have officially appointed Ruben Amorim as first-team coach. The Portuguese coach takes charge of the Rossoneri after leaving Manchester United earlier this year, thus starting a new chapter in his career.
Amorim has signed a contract that will keep him on the Milan bench until the summer of 2028. His appointment comes as a surprise to many red and black fans, as the Portuguese's name was not considered among the main favorites for this position.
The 41-year-old has won six trophies in his coaching career. His greatest successes came with Sporting Lisbon, where he won two Portuguese league titles, two League Cups and a Super Cup, while he also previously managed Braga. The experience at Manchester United was his first challenge at a top European club, but it did not prove successful.
In the official announcement, Milan emphasizes that Amorim has long been pursued by the club's leaders due to his modern playing philosophy and ability to develop players.
" We have been following Ruben for years. His journey at Sporting has been extraordinary and he fits perfectly with the style of play we are looking for. He is one of the most prepared and innovative coaches of the new European generation: young, ambitious, with a clear footballing identity and a well-defined tactical approach ," said club owner Jerry Cardinale.
He added that Amorim's philosophy of attacking, high-intensity football matches Milan's vision.
" Ruben believes in high-intensity attacking football. His philosophy fits perfectly with our vision, and his leadership qualities, combined with his ability to develop players, have deeply impressed us. We believe in him and are excited to welcome him to the club ," said Cardinale.
With the arrival of Amorim, Milan aims to open a new cycle, believing that the Portuguese coach can return the team to the highest levels of Italian and European football.
