Trump attacks the Pope: You are terrible, if I were not president you would not be in the Vatican

Trump has launched an unusual attack on Pope Leo XIV, saying he did not think the US-born global leader of the Catholic Church was "doing a very good job" and that "he is a very liberal person."

Unlike any US leader, Donald Trump has attacked Pope Leo in a post on Truth.

"He is weak on crime and terrible on foreign policy. He talks about fear of the Trump administration, but doesn't mention the fear that the Catholic Church and all other Christian organizations - felt during Covid, when priests, ministers and everyone else were arrested for holding religious services. I much prefer his brother Louis because he is completely Maga. He has it all figured out. I don't want a Pope who thinks it's acceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons," Trump wrote.

Trump further said that "if I weren't in the White House, Leo wouldn't be in the Vatican."

"Leo should be grateful to me because, as everyone knows, his appointment was a disturbing surprise. He was not on any list of papal candidates and was chosen by the Church only because he was American; in fact, it was believed that this was the best way to manage the relationship with President Donald J. Trump." The American president wrote this in a scathing attack on the Pope. "If I were not in the White House, Leone would not be in the Vatican," the tycoon continued.

Trump's comments came after Pope Leo said an "illusion of omnipotence" is fueling the US-Israeli war on Iran. While it is not unusual for popes and presidents to have opposing agendas, it is extremely rare for a pope to directly criticize an American leader, and Trump's scathing response is just as unusual, if not more so.

He echoed this sentiment in comments to reporters, saying, "We don't like a Pope who says it's okay to have a nuclear weapon."

Later, Trump posted a photo suggesting he had saintly powers similar to those of Jesus Christ. Dressed in a biblical-style robe, Trump is seen placing his hands on a man lying on a bed, light emanating from his fingers, while a soldier, a nurse, a praying woman and a bearded man in a baseball cap all look on in admiration. The sky above is filled with eagles, an American flag and vaporous images.

All this came after the Pope led an evening prayer service in St. Peter's Basilica on Saturday, the same day the United States and Iran began face-to-face negotiations in Pakistan over a fragile ceasefire.

The pope did not mention the United States or Trump by name, but his tone and message seemed directed at Trump and American officials, who have boasted about U.S. military superiority and justified the war in religious terms.
