10 municipalities in the country will be merged. The statement by the chairman of the Territorial Reform Commission, Arbjan Mazniku, that the Municipality of Prrenjas could become an administrative unit of the Municipality of Librazhd has caused strong reactions in the city.
Residents of Prrenjas, regardless of their political beliefs, have come out against this proposal, arguing that such a decision would violate the identity, history, and representation of their municipality.
Objections have also appeared on social networks, while in the coming days it is expected to begin collecting signatures for a petition, through which citizens intend to oppose the possible merger of Prrenjas with the Municipality of Librazhd.
Prrenjas has functioned for decades as a separate municipality and is considered by residents as an area with a distinct identity, traditions, and consolidated history.
One of the municipality's main assets is Rrajca, known for its natural and historical treasures. The area includes part of the Shebenik-Jabllanicë National Park, one of the most important protected areas in the country, which, according to opponents of the proposal, makes it even more important to preserve Prrenjas' current administrative status.
