12 agreements for the recognition of pensions, where and how do Albanians

At the beginning of the month, Albania finalized the agreement with Italy on the recognition of pensions, which was being negotiated for 15 years. Loudly trumpeted by the neighboring country, this agreement is considered vital for the Albanian diaspora there.

While we are known as a country that has very high immigration in many countries of the world, how many agreements on the recognition of pensions has Albania signed so far?

12 such have been finalized, it is important to highlight those with the countries of the European Union, where the vast majority of Albanian immigrants are located. Meanwhile, four other agreements are nearing finalization, mainly with the Balkan countries.

But there are cases like Greece, where the largest number of Albanian immigrants are located, with which we still do not have an agreement on pensions. with this state, there is still no light at the end of the tunnel.

While negotiations are underway with Serbia and Poland, and negotiations for pension agreements are expected to start with Denmark as well; Spain; Slovenia and Moldova. This despite the fact that these countries have a much smaller weight in terms of the number of Albanian immigrants.

But why does the pension recognition agreement matter for an immigrant living in another country? What does it bring to him?

Let's take the example of an Albanian citizen living in Italy. Person A has 10 years of work in Albania. I mean has poured contributions for this period. later, he emigrated to Italy, where he has 12 years of declared work, for which he paid insurance. At the moment the agreement is reached, it becomes possible to join the years of work and according to the calculations, person A is recognized for 22 years of work. In Italy, 20 years of work is enough to retire. This means that this citizen automatically retires and receives a pension in Albania for the 10 years he contributed and a pension in Italy for the other 12 years.

How are the Albanian immigrants distributed in the countries of the European Union to understand the importance of these agreements? The latest data are those of 2018 from the European Institute of Statistics. Albania lacks a register of the diaspora. in other words, we do not know how many Albanians live abroad and where they are.

Eurostat data show that about 1 million Albanians have emigrated to European countries, where the vast majority are in Italy and Greece./ A2CNN
