The debate regarding the date when Albania was liberated has been going on for decades, while political parties are also divided between November 28 and 29.
Historian Ferit Duka, invited to "This Week" with Nisida Tufa on News24, states that everything is clear to historians, explaining that November 28, 1944, the day when the leaders of the time entered Tirana and delivered their respective speeches, should be recognized as the date of liberation.
He explained that the debate arose later, after the Communist Party changed the date, in order to prevent the figure of Enver Hoxha from being "overshadowed" by the figure of Ismail Qemali.
"A day of extraordinary symbolism and significance, a fundamental historical reference that unites Albanians. I am not from the war period to make a competent discussion about the end of the war. Debates seem to me in a futile way. This is because we should not discuss when the last German left or when the country was actually liberated. These are clear, on November 28, 1944, Albania was liberated. PK and Hoxha entered Tirana triumphantly and gave speeches, this is sealed for me.
"Then the communist leadership reflected that the war should also have its own date, Hoxha wanted it not to be overshadowed by Ismail Qemali, so," he said.
