
A large-scale operation, spanning 4 countries, was finalized yesterday by Italian anti-mafia and law enforcement agencies of the countries where an organization suspected of trafficking drugs from South America was operating.
In addition to the arrest warrants it executed the day before, where 9 arrests were made in Brescia, while 24 precautionary measures were issued, the Italian anti-mafia also has 49 people under investigation, 46 of whom are Albanians.
Italian media write that the bases where the organization operated in Italy were in Rovato and Palazzolo, while drug import and then drug trafficking were in the hands of Albanian clans.
In the operation, 3 million euros belonging to the organization were seized, while it is suspected that it generated a total of 12 million euros.
From the information gathered, the cocaine arrived from South America, while the heroin came from Albania.
The investigation revealed bus drivers who were unaware that they were transporting drugs, and truck drivers who were accomplices. Also implicated was a businessman from Bergamo from the Lower Bergamo area, who allegedly provided the means of transport.
A drug depot was identified in Dalmine. Further links were also identified in the Bergamo area: some of the Albanians under investigation reside in Osio Sopra, Osio Sotto and Stezzano.
