Today, the restored airbase that has already been made available to the North Atlantic Alliance will be inaugurated in Kuçovo.
This base will serve as a hub for our Air Force activities, providing advanced infrastructure for the Alliance's fighter and transport aircraft.
The works for its reconstruction started in January 2022. Since then, work has been done on the fencing and security system, as well as protection in the perimeter where this base is located.
Approximately 50 million euros have been invested by NATO and more than 5 million euros have been invested by the Albanian government.
The Albanian authorities have undertaken the construction of the security perimeter and connecting roads, lighting, the installation of base security cameras and intrusion detection sensors along the perimeter of the base.
The Kuçova air base was part of the bilateral talks between Prime Minister Rama and Secretary Anthony Bliken.
The head of American diplomacy declared that this base will have the help of all partner countries in NATO for its equipment with the latest technology.
Blinken added that "the fact that the Kuçova air base will be inaugurated a few weeks later is a wonderful way to underline and emphasize the commitment that Albania has made to NATO and NATO has to Albania".
