The Constitutional Court has set September 16th as the date for reviewing the appeal of businessman Kastriot Ismailaj, accused in the CEZ-DIA case, one of the episodes that also landed former president Ilir Meta in prison.
In his appeal, Ismailaj requests the annulment of the decisions of the Tirana Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, which upheld his conviction, as well as the reversal of the confiscation of the amounts seized during the investigation, approximately 4.2 million dollars, 450 thousand euros and 12 million lekë.
The case in the Constitutional Court will be examined only on the basis of documents. Ismailaj was accused of embezzling almost 5 million euros during the contract with CEZ for the collection of energy debts. In September 2023, he completed his sentence and was released from prison.
Investigation:
The history of the CEZ-DIA affair, SPAK begins precisely with the creation of Kastriot Ismailaj's company, "Debt Internacional Advisory" offshore in the "Virgin Island" on July 5, 2010, while the branch in Albania on August 4 of the same year. Meanwhile, an agreement with the CEZ board was signed on September 1. So not even a month later. It seems clear that the Prosecution here suspects that the purpose of creating this company was precisely this agreement.
During the period of the company's creation and the discussion of the agreement, SPAK emphasizes that Ilir Meta and Kastrioti Ismailaj communicated with each other 115 times, by phone or text message, in just 5 months. Not only that, but Meta took Ismailaj with him to CEZ meetings in Prague, made him participate in the meetings of the Supervisory Board of CEZ-DIA but also the Supervisory Board of OSHE, even though legally he did not belong to them.
Ilir Meta had one objective, to profit 10 million euros from the CEZ-DIA affair, according to the SPAK file, and for this he would use Kastriot Ismailaj, who is already awaiting the word of the Constitutional Court.
