Instead of saving lives, Trauma is held hostage to bars and occupied spaces...
To understand that the “action” to free up public spaces is simply a propaganda bubble, a short walk to the most important health institution in the country is enough: the Trauma Hospital, widely known as the Military Hospital. Once a diamond of Albanian medicine, a gift from the Italians, today it has become the clearest example of the crookedness and barbarity of insatiability.
A few days ago, a tragic incident became an invisible routine: a large number of olive trees that once adorned the green courtyard were cut down to make way for sewage canals. During the Italian occupation, Jacomoni, the viceroy of Victor Emmanuel III, would not tolerate such a thing. During the dictatorship, Enver Hoxha would declare the director's entire family an enemy and execute them.
Today? The current director, former socialist MP Edlira Bode, executes the trees as if nothing had happened. To her, cutting down the olive trees seems part of a "contemporary" logic, without considering the fact that it is depriving patients and the environment necessary for the air that the sick breathe.
But the trees are not the only victims. Every space in the hospital is occupied by private individuals: the parking lot, the catering, the bars, everything functions at prices like in the most expensive resorts in Albania. The nurses, even when they come with the sick, undergo a Magellan-like journey to reach the wards, which resemble a variant of Calcutta.
Historically, the land for the Trauma Hospital and the surrounding areas was purchased by the Italian government and then transferred to the Albanian state. There is no obstacle for the hospital to own and use the premises, invest and increase staff. But the reality is different: private companies have taken the breath of the hospital, hindering patients and staff, while government reformists attack only small bars.
This is precisely where the absurdity of the situation lies: an important national hospital, which should be an example of public service and organization, is today a silent crime scene. A place where SPAK, in due time, should have opened its investigations./ Pamphlet
