After 16 days of non-stop protests in Tirana, the leader of the Agrarian Environmentalist Party, Agron Duka, assesses that the civic movement has managed to exert pressure on the government, but expresses doubts that it can produce concrete results if it continues without organization and a clear direction.
Duka said that the current protests differ from rallies organized by political parties, as according to him they stem from the accumulated dissatisfaction and anger of citizens.
"It's hard to have a final product if they're so cacophonous, with different groups of people and unorganized. If they want to have a product, they have to organize and elect a group of people, and there's nothing wrong with supporting young politicians against the establishment," he said on "A2 CNN."
Agron Duka stated that the rallies are putting the government in a difficult position, while adding that protests with a political agenda, such as those organized by the DP, have not yielded results and have shown that they are worthless.
According to him, the fact that protesters have been on the streets for 16 consecutive days shows the high level of indignation that exists in society.
"They did very well, because they put the government in a difficult position. What I have always said, protests with an agenda like the DP did are worthless, it really shows that they are worthless. Protests happen when there is popular anger, as happened, for many, many reasons, starting with Zvërnec and then as they themselves have stated, they have brought out many of the problems that the government has today. Because there is great indignation, to stay on the streets for 16 days", continued the PAA leader.
Duka emphasizes that, if protesters aim to achieve concrete changes, they must move to a more organized phase and build a clear political or civic representation that can channel this dissatisfaction into tangible results.
