Accident at Dajlan Bridge

The accident that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old girl the night before in Durrës has once again brought to attention how fast young people drive even though they may be under the influence of alcohol.

Gëzim Hoxha, a road expert through a direct link on 'Today Live in Albania' said that young people consider speeding as a sport without considering the risks it may bring. On the other hand, Hoxha stressed that the ARRSH should go out into the field to inspect the constructed roads.

"Road accidents have become a very negative phenomenon in our society and are losing many lives, especially young people who consider it a sport and do not understand that their lives depend on the speed they move. ARRSH should go out into the field not with shoes but with boots and conduct a surveillance of the constructed roads.

"We need to look at the speed limit of the road, another car crashed there (Dajlan Bridge) in September. In my opinion, there should be additional signage there in order to protect us (from accidents). Not everything should be left in the hands of the police, we also need to take care of ourselves," said Hoxha.

To avoid such accidents, the expert states that different practices are used in countries around the world.

"The world has a number of variations, for example, when you go to a bar, at the entrance it says that the driver of the car should not use alcoholic beverages. When you leave the bar, they do an alcohol test, and they don't give you the car keys (a practice that is carried out in the Netherlands). However, in Albania we have long wanted to be emancipated. People need to understand that when you go to drink alcohol, you go by taxi and not by your own car," he says.

At the end of the interview, the expert reiterated that safety elements should be particularly considered on our country's roads. He pointed out the damaged protective barriers on several road segments.

"All roads in Albania need to be looked at especially for safety elements, so that we don't risk people's lives. The forms of who will do it then are a technical part. The curves need to be tuned. The protective barriers are a black face, they have fallen and have not been repaired," he underlined.
