The Director General of Prisons, Klevis Qose, reported today to the Committee on Internal Affairs and Defense, where he was also asked about former President Ilir Meta's accusations of isolation. He said that Meta had no restrictions on his legal rights while in detention.
Qose stated that Meta has held all meetings approved by the prosecutor and has used telephone communication without hindrance. He said that Meta has 3,600 phone calls and considered this as proof that there were no restrictive measures.
" The institution of penal executions in 313 has reviewed the incident and imposed a disciplinary measure, as security rules do not allow detainees to appear in the media, publicly tell their story or make statements that could be used as a form of pressure. Meta was a former president, but he was treated with full dignity, according to the laws and the European Convention ," said Qose.
Qose said that the only problematic case was related to a phone call that was broadcast in a television studio. He explained that this constituted a violation of security rules and that the institution took disciplinary action according to procedure.
The director rejected the opposition's claims and reiterated that Meta's treatment was in accordance with legal standards and European norms.
