Other details have been revealed by the arrest of businessman Amant Josifi in Dubai, who was wanted internationally by the Spanish authorities.
The largest newspaper in Spain, "El Pais" has revealed that Amant Josifi was detained on September 6 in Dubai after being identified by the Catalan police and the "Guardia Civil" as a "high value" target.
According to the Spanish authorities, Josifi is the owner of several call-centers registered in Albania, through which the police suspect that thousands of Spanish citizens have been defrauded, offering them false financial investments. "El Pais" writes that Josifi is a well-known businessman in Albania, with strong political connections.
She adds that his arrest has caused an earthquake in our country, and that Josifi served as an adviser to the Ministry of Defense in the period 2018-2020.
One of the 33-year-old's lawyers in Spain told the "El Pais" newspaper that Josifi is just a businessman who had rented call centers and that he did not know what kind of activities were carried out there.
The arrest, according to Spanish judicial sources, was carried out through Interpol. Josif is free, without any measure of security, pending the presentation of the request for extradition by the court of La Seu.
The investigation of the case revealed the operation of "call centers" open 24 hours a day, with dozens of people who are claimed to be fake agents, who deceived citizens from all over the world.
The 'victims' believed they were investing in high-profit financial products and cryptocurrencies, but in reality the money was going straight into the pockets of the criminal organization.
Catalan police developed a search engine of 470 allegedly fraudulent websites. From the initial complaint of an elderly woman who was extorted 800 thousand euros, an international team was created, with the involvement of other countries such as Germany, Italy, Georgia and Albania. Police say the network has made about 2.4 billion euros with "hundreds of thousands" of victims worldwide.
According to "El Pais", Amant Josifi was in charge of the branch of the criminal organization that dealt with defrauding Spanish citizens, and that had Albania as its epicenter.
