The circulation of vehicles at the Qafë Bota customs, on the Albania-Greece border, has been blocked since the arrest of 14 Greek customs officers at the Mavromati border crossing. There has been traffic and congestion at this entry point, leading to long lines of vehicles every day, for those coming from the neighboring country to our country. The long lines were recorded in the early hours after noon.
The arrested officials, who were part of the Greek customs structure in Mavromati, are suspected of being involved in corruption and smuggling schemes. After the intervention of the authorities, they were replaced with other employees brought from other customs points in Kakavija and the Port of Igoumenitsa.
However, the situation has not yet stabilized. Customs checks have been increased, affecting the pace of processing vehicles and passengers. This has led to significant delays in crossing the border, especially during peak hours, when travelers wait for hours in high temperatures.
