The head of the Albanian Road Authority, Evis Berberi, has been arrested by order of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
The barber was arrested on Wednesday evening after being accused of corruption and money laundering.
There is still no official announcement from SPAK, but in advance it is learned that the tender that "burned" Berberi is for the maintenance of the ARRSH servers. It is suspected that a relative of Berber who benefited was involved in this tender. However, on the list of investigations are other tenders denounced in the media and not only.
It is not yet known whether he was arrested at the office, at home or elsewhere. Yesterday evening, the news circulated in the media that Berberi resigned from his post. Earlier, there were checks in his office but also in his house, where it was reported that hundreds of thousands of euros and other valuables were seized. Evis Berber's phone, laptop, etc. were also seized.
SPAK started investigating him about two weeks ago, for the issue of selling a company in 2018.
It is suspected that it is a matter of a fictitious transfer of the company in order for Evis Berberi to avoid the conflict of interest, shortly before he was appointed as an advisor to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.
Berberi was appointed head of ARRSH in June 2021, while there is still no decision on the new director.
