Taking the lead from the arrest of lawyer Ulian Barjami, the Chamber of Advocates decided to boycott court hearings.
In an interview with News24 journalist Klodiana Lala, the head of the Chamber of Advocates, Maks Haxhia, emphasized that this was a reaction against the behavior and inequality of the parties in the process.
According to him, lawyers in court proceedings do not have the same rights as prosecutors, and he added that this mindset must change from magistrate school.
"It is understandable that the arrest of the lawyer was the culmination of the treatment of lawyers throughout all the processes. This treatment showed the spirit that has been installed between the relations between the prosecution and the defense, how the court does not respect the principle of equality in the process. The climax was reached in this event. There is no withdrawal by the prosecution for the release of the lawyer. The prosecution withdrew from the illegality. The paradox was that the client he was defending was; not reporting a crime and opposing state employees. When the authorities were confronted with the video, they saw that they were facing a forgery," said Haxhia.
Focusing on the lawyers' boycott, Haxhia emphasized that; "Not all court proceedings were interrupted, but only criminal ones. After it was proposed to abandon all trials. We thought about the citizens. The position of the Chamber of Advocates was moderate and was not to get our colleague out of prison, but against the current that has been established for the treatment of advocacy. We did not feel like a party to the process, facing the prosecutor. The principle of impartiality has been violated. The causes of this situation come from the Magistrate's school. If you take the recorded material at the legal reform meeting, I withdrew, as I have opposed the decentralization of prosecutors' offices and the stripping of the chief prosecutor's functions from the beginning."
