The High Inspectorate of Justice (ILD) has initiated verifications on its own initiative regarding the detention of lawyer Ulian Barjami.
The latter was released from the cell yesterday afternoon after being detained three days ago by Judicial Police officers following a lawsuit filed by prosecutor Gjergji Ceka, alleging that he had been threatened by his lawyer during the court session at the Elbasan Court.
Inspectors from the ILD went to Elbasan today to administer the practice and procedural circumstances of the lawyer's detention.
Barjami and Ceka got into an argument in the courtroom, after the lawyer accused the prosecutor of presenting false evidence and would file criminal charges against him. But the Prosecutor interpreted the lawyer's stance as a threat, and even warned of arrest in the courtroom. The judge presiding over the hearing also took a stance in support of prosecutor Ceka, 'crucifixing' the lawyer.
The lawyer was released from prison after mounting pressure that led to a 5-day boycott of courtrooms by criminal lawyers.
