Lawyer and constitutionalist Jordan Daci has announced that he will not be the defense attorney for Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj in the hearing to be held this Friday at the Constitutional Court, regarding the appeal against his dismissal decision.
In a reaction on social media, Daci explains that after a careful legal and ethical assessment, he has determined that he is in a conflict of interest due to his and his law firm's previous commitments in other cases still in process.
"In response to the public interest regarding my engagement as a potential defense attorney for Mr. Veliaj before the Constitutional Court, after a careful assessment in accordance with the law and the Code of Ethics, I conclude that I am in a conflict of interest due to my and my law firm's engagements in other previous cases still in process and reasons other than those for which the law, ethics and morality oblige us not to be a defense attorney in cases like these. For these reasons, I hereby inform you that I will not be his defense attorney before the Constitutional Court in tomorrow's trial," Daci writes.
Friday's hearing at the Constitutional Court is expected to be one of the most important in recent months, as three parties will be facing each other, Erion Veliaj, the government and the Presidency, in a process that will determine whether the decision to dismiss the mayor of Tirana will remain in force or be overturned.
