Prisons across the south coast of England are now filled with Albanian prisoners, from Dorset and Devon to Hampshire and Sussex, following the infiltration of Balkan gangs who are terrorising local communities.
Prison statistics, obtained by the Daily Mail through a public information request, show the extent of the influence of Albanian offenders in the British criminal world.
Balkan bosses have built dominance in the underworld by using ties to Colombian cartels to secure cocaine at the most favorable prices and by wreaking violent revenge on anyone who dares to oppose them.
But now they are facing competition, as the UK's demographics are rapidly changing, with new gangs challenging Albanian control. Other criminal groups from Eastern Europe are expanding into as yet untapped criminal markets, including coastal resorts and small towns.
Oxfordshire, home to the affluent Cotswolds, holds more Albanians in prison than any other county outside London and Kent, according to data from Prisons England and Wales. Meanwhile, young immigrants, often asylum seekers from Africa and the Middle East, are trying to make their mark on Britain's lucrative crime market.
However, in some areas, traditional crime groups continue to maintain control after decades of dominance. Old crime families still instill fear in parts of London, despite growing competition from African and Caribbean gangs in Tottenham and Peckham, experts say.
Turkish families continue to hold sway in north London, while Tamil gangs continue to operate in Croydon, decades after establishing control there. Similarly, Indian and Pakistani gangs formed in the mid-20th century patrol the streets of Birmingham with few real rivals.
Other cities, such as Liverpool and Glasgow, remain largely untouched by foreign criminal groups and continue to be controlled by British gangsters.
Albanian gangs in Essex and Kent
The Daily Mail's analysis of prison statistics shows that the Albanian influence on British criminal activity is considerable: out of 7,590 foreign prisoners, 1,053 are Albanian.
Having initially gained ground in East London, the Albanians have expanded further eastwards and there are now 139 Albanians in Kent prisons. These include HMP Maidstone, HMP Rochester, HMP Cookham Wood, HMP East Sutton Park and the Sheppey complex prisons.

Shqiptarët përbëjnë gjithashtu tre të katërtat e të burgosurve të huaj në Durham, një të tretën në Bedfordshire dhe një në tre në Sussex. Ata përfaqësojnë gjithashtu pjesë të konsiderueshme të të burgosurve në Hampshire, Suffolk, Devon, Cornëall dhe Lincolnshire.
Konkurrenca e re në Londër
Megjithatë, disa rajone kanë rezistuar ndaj ndikimit shqiptar falë rrjeteve tradicionale kriminale lokale.
Në Londër ndodhen 138 shqiptarë në burgje, përfshirë 45 në HMP Ëandsëorth dhe 26 në Wormwood Scrubs. Por artikulli thekson rritjen e bandave algjeriane të vjedhjeve të telefonave, të cilat tashmë dominojnë në City të Londrës.

Liverpool dhe Glasgow mbeten bastione lokale
Eksperti Simon Harding nga Qendra Kombëtare për Kërkime mbi Bandat deklaroi se Liverpool dhe Glasgoë vazhdojnë të kontrollohen kryesisht nga banda britanike ose irlandeze. Rreth 91 për qind e të burgosurve në HMP Altcourse dhe HMP Liverpool janë britanikë.
Harding tha se bandat shqiptare kanë dominuar tregtinë e kokainës në shumë pjesë të Britanisë, por nuk kanë arritur të depërtojnë në Liverpool. Ai theksoi se familjet tradicionale kriminale në Liverpool janë shumë të fuqishme dhe të organizuara prej dekadash.

Manchester is also facing a rise in criminal gangs from Eritrea, Nigeria and Sudan. The city's prisons hold 20 percent of Eritrean prisoners in Britain. The article cites cases of rape and attempted kidnapping involving migrants from Nigeria and Sudan.
Albanians are moving to coastal cities
According to the report, competition in big cities is pushing Albanian groups towards the coastal areas of southern England.
Sexual and violent crime has increased in Devon, Cornwall, Hampshire, Dorset and Sussex. Over 40 per cent of foreign prisoners in Dorset, Devon and Cornwall prisons are Albanian or Romanian.
The article also mentions two Albanian brothers, Klevis and Artur Hoxhosmani, who authorities say built a £335 million cocaine empire from a car wash in Bournemouth.
In Birmingham and the West Midlands, gangs of Indian, Pakistani and Caribbean origin continue to dominate. Expert Simon Harding says the ethnic makeup of neighborhoods directly influences the composition of criminal gangs.
