Residents of the village of Luz in Fushë Krujë have protested for the third time over the poor condition of the village road.
This morning, students from the "Gjon Luka" school also joined the protest. The children state that they are polluted every day on their way to school and that they feel endangered when trucks, to avoid potholes, drive over the sidewalk.
Residents declare that the institutions have not responded, while warning that the protests will continue until a response is received.
"The third time we went out, they didn't bring us any answers. Today we also took the children, their shoes are all muddy, they protested and the children didn't go to school, today we are waiting for an answer from the state.
This is the third time we have protested and there has been no reaction from the state. We have come out with all our might. We will continue to protest until we get an answer.
It's unfortunate the state the road is in. It's unfortunate for these children who come here, there's been a lot of rain and there's been mud.
"This gravel is not good, they should pave it with asphalt and that's it. The road will not be opened until measures are taken. The residents have started putting stones on the sidewalk because the trucks come and get on the sidewalk," said some of the residents.
Also present alongside the residents is former DP candidate for MP, Aulon Kalaja. Kalaja says that along the road, the authorities should also build an overpass due to the presence of children who have to cross every day to go to school.
"We want to call on the government to react. It is not a solution to gravel, asphalt and European standards to hold heavy tonnage trucks. Even their children have chosen to protest with their fathers. Their right to ask for the road because their shoes are muddy. Let's see what happens even for the lack of an overpass. Parents are forced to pick them up and take them to the school door. The first is the road and the second is the overpass," said Kalaja.
Yesterday afternoon, a truckload of gravel was dumped on the road to fill in the large potholes, but residents say this is not a solution. They are demanding the complete reconstruction of the road, which is a main artery and where many trucks pass daily.
Residents blocked the road for over an hour today, while declaring that they will continue with the protests, and will even escalate them if there is no serious intervention in its reconstruction.
