The State Department has dealt another blow to Athens. A day ago "Pamphlet" showed how a spokesperson of DASH ignored the questions of Greek journalists regarding the arrest of Fredi Beleri, while the Greek media write today that they addressed him in writing.
But DASH has made it clear to them that Albania applies its own laws and the laws must be equal for everyone.
" We are aware of the case (of Fredi Beleri's detention) and we expect the Albanian authorities to follow a regular process according to the laws of the country ", said DASH.
3 days ago, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller appeared at a press conference and an Athens reporter asked him how much Freddie Beller is owed.
The journalist used the same language as Athina, stating that Beleri is in political prison and requested a stay from the State Department.
" My question has to do with relations between Albania and Greece, another of your allies. Relations are in deep crisis recently because the Prime Minister of Albania, I don't know if you know, ordered the arrest of a Greek mayor. He is the elected president. He is still in prison after three months. My question is: are you aware of the arrest? And if you know, have you intervened with the Albanian government for the release of this elected mayor? ", he asked.
But the spokesperson of DASH has avoided it by not returning an answer. He passed the word on to two other journalists, leaving Athens "dry" in this way.
Fredi Beleri was arrested a few days before the May 14 local elections for buying votes. Athens has tried to intervene in the process, threatening and exerting pressure, but it has not succeeded, and it has also made it big in the EU, where only the People's Parties answer to you. It seems that Athens is lobbying for the Americans to support it, but the spokesperson has given it the well-deserved blow. The US has totally ignored it by not intervening in this matter at all.
