Journalist Bled Koka has warned that Prime Minister Edi Rama is on the way to bargaining with the EU for the establishment of a refugee camp in Albania.
In Koka's view, Albania's participation in a meeting of EU leaders organized by Giorgia Meloni in Spain means only one thing: Bargaining for a new camp for refugees from Lampedusa and problematic immigrants in Germany.
In "Top Talk", the journalist said that Albania will be the country that will be chosen as a depository for immigrants, in exchange for a faster path to join the EU. Emphasizing that the situation is quite alarming, Koka says that if this happens, the costs will be paid only by Albanians and Albania in the long term.
Xhokaxhi: The summit in Spain, the ministerial meeting in Tirana, what impressed you? There were some statements, some interesting moves...
Koka: It is important to talk about the integration of the European Union, to be everyone because only integration can bring peace. I say this in the context of skepticism because yesterday in Spain there was a meeting of EU leaders, organized by Giorgia Meloni, with the presence of a country that is not part of the European Union, such as Albania.
Today "The Guardian" has talked about the possibility of creating and opening a refugee camp, which will lead to a country that has not yet been determined immigrants coming to Lampedusa, but also from Germany, which has recently encountered problems such as announced German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. From the information we have, it is possible that Albania will be the country that will be selected as a place of deposit for immigrants coming from Lampedusa and those who have returned to problems in Germany.
Through this bargain or this scheme, Albania will be given a faster lane to join the EU.
Xhokaxhi: Are we talking about temporary passage, as has happened so far, or residents?
Koka: No no, as residents. As a place of deposit.
Xhokaxhi: Where do we have the space to keep them, it is about hundreds of thousands.
Koka: A year ago we talked about the preparation of the barracks located in Korça or different places, which were being prepared for these immigrants. I think that very likely, very soon we will discuss the need to set up these camps and this is a kind of bargain that has been offered to Mr. Rama - bargain because it is very harmful for Albania and very fragile for Albania's shoulders - as a passage way, a way to accelerate Albania's membership to the European Union. This is the only additional element that I have noticed in a summit like that of Spain and I think it is an issue that needs to be debated.
This also explains the great love of Giorgia Meloni for Edi Rama all of a sudden during the summer 3 days in his residence, but also of the EU leaders who try to use Mr. Rama's desire to be a factor in any case, in any way and every cost, on the shoulders of Albania and Albanians, regardless of the consequences and selling this as a great achievement, but the country pays the costs in the long term.
