A restaurant in Theth has been completely destroyed after being engulfed in flames in the early hours of this morning.

According to the police, the restaurant is owned by Petrit Gjeçaj, who turns out to be an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH). Local residents and fire services managed to extinguish the flames in the restaurant, while no injuries were reported, as the tourists were evacuated in time.

"During the early hours of the morning, in the village of Theth, a fire broke out in the premises owned by citizen P. Gj. As a result, only material damage was caused. The Police and Fire Department services immediately went to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire. The investigation group is working to determine the cause of the fire," the police announced.

In a statement to the media, Petrit Gjeçaj's wife, Aida Gjeçaj, says that experts have ruled out an electrical spark as the cause.

She suspects that the incident may have been intentional, but excludes the possibility of any conflict with anyone. It is also being investigated whether the incident may have occurred due to Gjeçaj's work as a BKH agent.

Aida Gjeçaj stressed that the works on the restaurant were completed years ago and that the damage could be estimated at up to 150 thousand euros. She says that they have not built anything without a permit and that their guesthouses were not on the list of buildings to be demolished by IKMT.

"The only thing that experts have confirmed is that the electricity was not turned off even though the building was on fire, which rules out the incident as an electrical spark. So I have no doubts about other causes, because I don't owe anyone anything, I don't have any conflicts or threats. I don't know where it could have come from. We only own 5 rooms, as I didn't want to build anything without permission. I don't know where to put my finger on it," she declared.

The incident comes as IKMT has launched an action to demolish unauthorized buildings in the tourist village, which has caused protests.
