Berisha, Malltezi and the Partizani club

The former director of the sports club spoke about the financial situation, inventory and asset valuation process

Afrim Tola testified in the court session of the "Partizani" case, where former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, are among the defendants. He stated that during the years 2006-2008 he directed the multi-sports club "Partizani" and that the institution was facing a lack of funds.

According to him, only elite athletes were paid by the state, while other forms of funding were required for the rest. Tola said that the club included many sports disciplines and funds were limited.

In his testimony before the court, he explained that he had been part of the working group set up by the ministry to identify and evaluate the club's assets. He stated that the group's task had been to identify the assets and prepare their valuation.

When questioned by SPAK representatives, Tola said that during his time as director, he had not been contacted by other people regarding the process.

While during questions from the defense, he stated that he did not remember whether he had signed documents related to privatization, emphasizing that many years had passed since that period. He then admitted that he had been part of the inventory commission.

Tola also spoke about the condition of the sports complex, describing it as dilapidated. He stated that some of the premises were damaged and in some cases even the doors were missing. According to him, there were also families who had occupied premises within the complex.

The testimony also mentioned the value of the inventory in 2006, which according to Tola was around 20 million lek.

During questioning by Jamarbër Malltezi, the witness admitted that some objects had been forcibly occupied, but said that he did not remember a letter from 2003 related to inventory problems.

At the end of the hearing, Tola stated that he had not had any contact with businessman Fatmir Bektashi while he was managing the Partizani club. He said that he had heard his name, but did not remember ever meeting him.
