The Ministry of Defense has updated official data regarding the bad weather situation in the country, which has caused flooding in several areas from north to south.
The bad weather of recent days has created numerous problems in several regions of the country, affecting road traffic (due to water, frost, snow or landslides), electricity supply and the safety of residents, mainly in mountainous areas and near rivers.
For this very reason, authorities are urging residents to be cautious. Avoid movement.
"Residents of the affected areas are urged to avoid unnecessary movements, respect the instructions of the authorities and report any emergency to the relevant structures," the Ministry's announcement states.
Vehicles and employees of Civil Emergencies, State Police, Armed Forces and municipal services are on the ground to normalize the situation.
The situation on the ground
The Gjirokastër region presents the most problematic situation.
In the Municipality of Gjirokastër, there is snow in the Picar administrative unit, while the Drino River on the Gjirokastër-Tepelena axis has approached the roadbed, which has required immediate intervention to strengthen the embankment. In several villages: Odrie, Lunzhëri and Zagori, intervention is being made on several blocked road axes and on a small bridge on the Krinë-Tranoshisht-Saraqinishtë axis.
In the Municipality of Dropull, the Glina bridge remains problematic, while work is underway to clear the Pogon–Dropull, Zagori-Libohovë axes blocked by snow.
The work of the forces on the ground is continuing on the Përmet-Tre Urave Customs axis, which is blocked, as well as in the administrative unit of Frashër and several surrounding villages, where there are problems due to snowfall.
In the Municipality of Memaliaj, there are problems caused by the Vjosa River in agricultural lands, while in Tepelena, traffic on the Tepelena-Gjirokastër axis is carried out with only one lane in the "Shkalla e Zezë" area.
The Lezha region has been affected by snowfall even in low-lying areas, including the city of Lezha. The responsible structures are on standby to keep the road axes open. The repair of the damaged embankment on the Drojë River has been completed.
The Vlora region shows an improvement in terms of the decrease in flows on the Vjosa River. The underpass in the village of Bishan is blocked, but no flooded homes are reported, only the presence of water in yards.
The Elbasan region is facing snow and frost in the mountainous areas of the Elbasan and Peqin municipalities, where several rural roads have been blocked by snow and landslides. Vehicles and workers are on the ground to normalize the situation.
Dibër district remains one of the most affected areas as well. Civil emergency forces are working on several roads with ice or landslides. OSHEE teams are working to restore power to the administrative units of Bulqizë, Klos, Dibër and Lura. Some road segments are currently impassable, but police forces are on the ground to direct traffic.
The Armed Forces, civil protection structures, state police, municipal services, under the coordination of the National Civil Protection Agency and the Ministry of Defense, are engaged in the field with equipment and personnel to cope with the situation and restore normality.
