The accident of the Durrës Police officer crossing the white lines caused the Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, to announce the tightening of measures in the Road Code.
Mamir Hodo, a security expert, says that the law needs revision, especially when it comes to violations that endanger the lives of pedestrians in the crossings dedicated to them.
" The change of the Road Code should include in this case only the safe passage of pedestrians in the pedestrian crossing lines and there should be a very severe penalty that can go directly to the suspension of the driver's license for 2-3 years in order to immediately ", said Mamir Hodo for 'KlanTv'.
Describing 2023 as a year where the loss of life as a result of accidents increased by over 13%, the expert suggests that any change in the code should be consulted with specialists in the field to be as effective as possible.
" In the changes that I think should be made, the specialists should be left. They must take measures, and measures as it belongs to road safety and not because of the effect of the number ", he said.
The driver who caused the accident in Durrës, already arrested by the police, turned out to be driving his vehicle beyond the permitted limits and in a drunken state.
