Albanian Ambassador to Vienna Fate Velaj, homage to Pope Francis

The Albanian Ambassador to Vienna, Fate Velaj, paid his respects on the passing of Pope Francis, a beloved and respected figure throughout the world. The Albanian diplomat left a touching message in the book of condolences at the Vatican embassy in the Austrian capital, expressing his personal gratitude and that of the entire Albanian people to the distinguished figure of the Holy Father.
In his message, Ambassador Velaj recalled with emotion the historic visit of Pope Francis to Albania in 2014, describing it as an unforgettable event for its inspiring messages of religious coexistence and interfaith harmony.
"It was bitter news that we heard. Even more bitter was the sight when I saw Pope Francis without his so loving smile. I remember when he came to Tirana in 2014. It had been raining all day and, at the moment he was ascending the altar, it seemed as if someone pushed the clouds with such force that the sun burst out powerfully.
I clearly remember his speech and the powerful messages he gave in the crowded Mother Teresa Square. It was there, perhaps like nowhere else in the world, that the Orthodox priest, the Muslim hoxha, and the representative of the Bektashis stood together to listen to the wise words of Pope Francis. Thank you for all the good you did for humanity and especially for Albania,” the Albanian ambassador wrote./Pamphlet
