What will happen to the 400 Afghans in Shengjin?!

One of the executive orders of new US President Donald Trump signed on Monday also affects Albania.

This is the Executive Order, titled "Reorganizing the United States Refugee Admission Program", an order that directly affects those Afghans who are in our country awaiting the processing of a special visa known as SIV.

Journalist Muhamed Veliu has learned that there are currently 400 Afghans in Shengjin waiting to go to the USA.

Diplomatic sources aware of this process, on condition of anonymity, confirmed to Top Channel that 100 of them were refused this special type of SIV visa for specific reasons.

The same sources suggest that Afghans in Shengjin who have applied for this type of visa will likely not be affected by President Trump's executive order since they applied before the order was issued.

However, this situation after the executive order raises some questions about whether these Afghan citizens will travel to the US.

The first and most important issue is whether SIV visa holders will be able to benefit from social housing or social payments when they arrive in the US, assistance which comes from the US state budget.

Some of the Afghans already in Albania were forced to leave behind their parents or children, who will now be unable to sponsor them as refugees to join them.

This is another question on the minds of those already in Shëngjin who must face a new reality after Trump's executive order.

Top Channel has learned another element: American non-governmental organizations that assisted Afghans considered friends of the US have left Shëngjin.

Meanwhile, for the 400 Afghans currently in Shengjin, the costs of accommodation and food continue to be paid by the American government.

Albania accepted the US request to host Afghans in the fall of 2021. Our country was used to review their application by a consular officer at the US Embassy in Tirana.

Since then, over 4,000 Afghans whose lives were in danger as a result of the Taliban's rise to power have come to Albania and gone to the US./ TCH
