After about 10 years of intense negotiations, Italy and Albania finalize the mutual recognition of Social Security.
This long-awaited agreement by the Albanians who live and work in the neighboring country, received the signatures of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, and the Albanian counterpart, Igli Hasani.
It is learned that it is estimated that about 5,000,000 Albanians and Italians will benefit from this agreement. The implementation is expected to start with about 4 thousand pensions per year, and to continue increasing year after year. One of the main benefits is the merging of contribution periods.
Italy becomes the 17th country, with which Albania has signed similar agreements while it is in the process of negotiation with 17 other countries.
The agreement on the mutual recognition of Social Security between the Republic of Albania and the Republic of Italy enables:
Provision of social security benefits.
Equal treatment of employed persons and for the employees themselves;
The agreement will apply to legislation related to:
Insurance for old age, disability, family pension (survivors);
Sickness and pregnancy benefit insurance;
Unemployment insurance.
After signature, the Agreement will be ratified by both Contracting States, in accordance with their respective procedures, and instruments of ratification will be exchanged as soon as possible.
On the first day of the second month after the exchange of ratification documents, the Agreement will enter into force simultaneously with the Administrative Agreement for the implementing legislation of this Agreement, which will become valid at the same time as this Agreement will enter into force .
