"Speak Albanian", AMA undertakes the initiative that aims to stop the

The Audiovisual Media Authority has undertaken an initiative aimed at banning the use of foreign words in the media.

From January 1, the AMA's content monitoring and review teams have started monitoring the use of foreign words by radio and television.

AMA has published the initiative titled "speak Albanian", in the form of findings every week, after monitoring the content broadcast on radio and television, accompanied by the Albanian alternatives of the foreign words used.

"In this way, the AMA has thus opened the issue of respecting the standard of spoken and written Albanian by audiovisual editors. The media as a whole, and the audiovisual one in particular, have an extraordinary role in preserving the values of the Albanian language, but also in enriching it, avoiding unnecessary loads of foreign words and expressions. The phenomenon of the incorrect behavior of some audiovisual program leaders, who easily replace the Albanian vocabulary with foreign words in the formulation of questions, in the comments or interventions they make during the broadcast of the programs, has turned into a disturbing phenomenon. The effect is not only the deformation of Albanian but also the creation of unclear situations, incomprehensible to the followers. Also, this creates a chain effect, among the guests and up to the public, creating models that ultimately result in damage to the Albanian language" , says the AMA's response.

With the aim of curbing this phenomenon, the president of the AMA has announced that the monitoring of the use of foreign words on radio and television will be carried out from time to time and the results will be published so that media workers are aware of maintaining cleanliness. of the Albanian language.
