The prefect of the Vlora district, Plator Nesturi, said that 90% of fires are intentional.
Nesturi said that there was an immediate response from all structures, including other municipalities that provided assistance, after the fire endangered homes in Hoshtima, Kerkovë and Bestrovë.
The prefect has called for a tougher response to arsonists who set fires and cause such situations.
Aided by the wind, the fire advanced, burning vegetation and bushes, but also the village cemetery area, mainly with cypress trees. Meanwhile, the Armed Forces were also activated, from where a helicopter was launched to intervene from the air and extinguish the flames that were approaching residential areas.
